Background to the KeepActive Directory
This KeepActive directory provides accurate, up to date information of organisations in the Inverness and surrounding areas which welcome participation of older people. The design specifically seeks to organise this one comprehensive resource in an easy to use format.
Most of our entries are simply organisations which are inclusive of older people, not just those exclusive only to this demographic. Therefore, we anticipate all ages may well find useful contacts for their particular interests within our files.
The vision for this resource was originally identified by Alan Michael of Friendship Services but financing the venture from the limited funds available to the charity proved a big complication.
However, in December 2015, four Inverness teenagers, Jack Michael, Lewis Esslemont, Rhys Shaw and MacKenzie Brown from Inverness Royal Academy came to the assistance. Entering the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, they successfully bid for and won a grant of £3000 for their chosen charity, the Inverness Men’s Shed. Their presentation outlined the work of the Men’s Shed and explained how a portion of the prize money would be used to allow Shed members to create an online directory of activity for older people.
KeepActive has now been produced and is maintained by a team of volunteers from the Inverness Men's Shed who collect and record data, then check the accuracy and completeness of the information before inputting it to the directory.
Inverness Men's Shed manage and monitor the site, handle requests for updates to the information, enter details of new groups or activities, correct any 'broken' links if advised by an automatic checking procedures and generally ensure that it meets the needs of the intended target audience - older people in the area who want to participate in activities of all kinds.
You can assist by notifying us of any other activities which could be included in KeepActive.
There are no charges or conditions attached to inclusion on the site. Also, please let us know if there are any changes to or any way we can improve entries. We encourage suggestions and feedback - please use the 'Contact Us' button above to get in touch.
